May Day International Labor Day originated in 1886 when workers in the city of Chicago in the United States went on a general strike to advocate for an eight hour working day. Although this strike was forcefully suppressed by the police, the powerful force of the united struggle of the working class forced capitalists to make concessions. The American workers won this major strike and ultimately won the eight hour working system.
In July 1889, the Second International led by Engels held a congress in Paris. In order to commemorate the May Day strike by American workers and promote the struggle of workers from various countries for an eight hour working day, the congress passed a resolution to designate May 1st as International Labor Day, a national holiday in over 80 countries around the world.
On Labor Day, countries around the world hold various forms of celebration activities, such as commemorative performances of the workers' movement, award ceremonies for model workers, tourism and entertainment, etc. But the customs and activities vary in each country But no matter what, the annual May Day holiday is approaching, and people will put down their work and enjoy their own time as much as possible.
