The G20 has gathered to discuss carbon emissions. Negotiation is not easy
This group of 20 countries accounts for about 75% of the world's total greenhouse gas emissions. In 2021, the group recognized that limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre industrial levels required "meaningful and effective" steps.
Russia is one of the G20 countries. This month, Sky News and other reports said that Russia was burning natural gas that would normally be exported to Europe. According to Indonesia, the host country of the G20, Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend the leaders' meeting scheduled for November.
"We need to strengthen our game. All these extreme weather events around the world - in Europe, the Asia Pacific, but also in the Americas, [are] our real alarm bells. For everyone, we must take action now," Dutch Minister jetten said.
