The fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar is the traditional Dragon Boat Festival, which is one of the ancient

festivals of the Chinese people and has a history of over 2,000 years.

According to research, the Dragon Boat Festival originated in ancient times in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River

with the dragon as the totem of the Yue people, every year on the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar they

have to hold a grand "totem festival", to express their "dragon son" identity. Later, according to their own historical and

cultural characteristics of the North and South, the origin of the Dragon Boat Festival made different interpretations, such

as commemorating Jie Zitui, commemorating Wu Zixu, commemorating Cao E, from the "summer solstice", etc., and the

nomination of some traditional festivals to the world intangible cultural heritage.

The Dragon Boat Festival occupies an indispensable position among traditional Chinese cultural festivals and has a deep

influence in the world. 2009 saw UNESCO officially approve the inscription of the Dragon Boat Festival on the Representative

List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, making it the first Chinese festival to be inscribed on the World Intangible

Heritage List, making it of great historical and practical importance.
